Dr. Yuhua Chen actively mentors and supports women high school students, undergraduate and graduate students, as well as junior women faculty members. She participates in UH’s annual GRADE Summer Camps for high school girls where she discusses how women can be successful in engineering. She has served as a mentor and a panelist in the Women in Engineering (WIE) program. She has hosted Harmony Science Academy high school students to conduct research projects. Two of them won the 3rd place in the Senior Team Division at the Houston Science Fair 2010. She participated as a panelist in the University Commission on Women’s New Faculty Workshop, which was designed to create a sense of community and provide advice to new faculty, especially new women faculty, on topics such as time management, balancing teaching and research, and work-life integration.
